Izanagi and Izanami:
- The central deities in this myth are Izanagi (伊邪那岐) and Izanami (伊邪那美). Commanded by the gods of the heavens, they began the creation of the Japanese archipelago.

- Izanagi and Izanami stood on the Floating Bridge of Heaven and stirred the ocean with a jeweled spear. When they lifted the spear, the salty water that dripped from it formed the first island, which is Awaji Island.
