In this episode, I introduce one of my recent favorite places: "Share Lounge." Unlike typical manga cafes, Share Lounge offers a more upscale and versatile environment where you can read books and manga, study, work, relax, or chat with friends. I'll be sharing the atmosphere, services, and my personal experiences at Share Lounge.
I discovered Share Lounge while visiting my hometown in Kagawa Prefecture. Initially planning to work at a Starbucks, I stumbled upon this stylish lounge inside the station, which turned out to be a great find, especially since Starbucks was crowded as usual.
The lounge exudes a sophisticated café-like ambiance, with just the right background music—neither too loud nor too quiet, perfect for working or relaxing. The quality chairs and desks are comfortable for long hours of sitting. Importantly, each seat has its own power outlet, making it an ideal workspace, and the Wi-Fi is fast.
One of my favorite features of Share Lounge is their unique coffee, especially the Nitro Coffee, which has nitrogen added, giving it a creamy texture similar to a stout beer. This coffee is available on tap, free of charge, which is remarkable considering it usually costs about 700 yen per cup in cafes.
Aside from Nitro Coffee, the lounge offers a variety of drinks, including regular coffee, espresso, cappuccino, mango juice, ginger ale, and even soy and almond milk. There are also plenty of snacks, ranging from traditional Japanese treats like senbei to chips, nuts, chocolate, and biscuits. For those who prefer something more substantial, they offer bread, soft serve ice cream, and even miso soup.
Alcohol enthusiasts can enjoy all-you-can-drink options for an additional fee, including draft beer and highballs from taps, as well as bottled drinks like Smirnoff and Zima.
The book selection at Share Lounge, managed by Tsutaya, is impressive, with a wide range of categories, including art and architecture books, especially in the Kagawa location, known for its numerous museums. The manga collection is also well-curated, displayed neatly to create a sophisticated atmosphere rather than a typical manga café vibe.
Although the cost might seem high at first glance—around 800 yen per hour in Kagawa and over 1,000 yen in Osaka—the value is evident considering the fast Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, prime location, unlimited access to books and manga, and a variety of drinks and snacks. They also offer a daily plan for about 3,000 to 3,500 yen, which I found worthwhile for spending an entire day there.
The registration process is simple and foreigner-friendly. At the reception, you just need to state the duration of your stay, and you’ll receive a receipt and a neck holder indicating your usage. When you're done, you pay at the counter based on the time spent.
Share Lounge locations can be found in major cities across Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka, typically near train stations for easy access. It's a slightly more luxurious and stylish option compared to manga cafes, perfect for book lovers and anyone looking for a quiet and refined space to spend time.
This recommendation is not sponsored; I genuinely want to share this fantastic place with you. If you understand this podcast, you'll have no trouble using and paying for the lounge. It's like a theme park for me, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Do you have any interesting cafes or coworking spaces in your area where you can relax? I'd love to hear about them.
